I’ve been working within the shape and metaphor of the cocoon: a metaphor both for safety and transformation. What happens when this shape is disrupted, invading a sanctuary that is supposed to feel safe and secure? The audience will be encouraged to insert their head into the cocoon, itself an uneasy act that asks the viewer to invade the object’s space, standing in stark contrast to the cozy nature of a handmade yarn-based sculpture.

This piece also emphasizes those moments of realization from the audience when they recognize that they are simultaneously witnessing the interior spaces of the other cocoons (including if there are other viewers in those pieces) while also broadcasting their own faces and reactions to others.

Project setup on June 1st, 2025

This project is made possible with public funds from the Queens Arts Fund, a re-grant program supported by New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council and administered by New York Foundation for the Arts.
